HBC ANNUAL CONFERENCE SEPT 30 - OCT 1, 2011Forging Our FutureAs Heritage BC celebrates its 30th anniversary, heritage in our province is at a cross roads. Where do we go from here? Who will decide? To tackle these critical questions, the 2011 Heritage BC annual conference is organized as a forum, an assembly to discuss these matters of common interest. We invite members and anyone else with an interest in the fate of heritage conservation in B.C. to take part in this important discussion about forging the future. This year’s conference program is lean, like the times, but includes all of the essential program elements: discussion, networking, news and information, the AGM and of course the Annual Awards. We have also set a very low registration fee of $60 for members to encourage as many groups and individuals to participate in this unique opportunity. CONFERENCE TOURBurnaby's Deer Lake ParkBurnaby’s beautiful Deer Lake Park, the setting for this year’s Heritage BC conference, has one of the largest municipally-owned heritage precincts in Canada with over 35 heritage buildings and sites. Join Burnaby’s Heritage Planner Jim Wolf and Museum Curator Lisa Codd for a grand tour of this fascinating 200 acre park to discover the Edwardian estates and historic landscapes that have been protected and conserved by the City of Burnaby. Several conservation projects will be included, emphasizing unique community partnerships such as the Land Conservancy’s operation of the Eagles Estate Heritage Garden and the 1965 Arthur Erickson-designed Baldwin Guest House. The tour will conclude with a look at Burnaby Village Museum’s preservation of its collections and buildings.
