Heritage Groups Can Apply for
Gaming Millions

The provincial government has reinstated gaming funding for adult arts and culture organizations. These categories, including many community-based heritage organizations, have been shut out for the past couple of years. The government also announced an immediate increase of $15 million in this fiscal year’s grants budget, with $6 million earmarked for adult arts, culture and sports organizations. 

Heritage societies are specifically mentioned as beneficiaries of the new money in the government’s January 11 media release. Applications are being accepted during a special intake period from January 16 to February 13, 2012. Click here for details:

Energy in B.C.
A Powerful Past, A Sustainable Future

If you haven’t already started, it is time to get ready for Heritage Week! This year’s theme “Energy in BC" offers all kinds of opportunities for special events, programs and celebrations.  

The poster features the Stave Falls Powerhouse, near Mission. Conserved by BC Hydro and turned into a unique interpretive centre, this century-old historic site is well worth a visit. Four thousand posters with a colourful painting by Robert Amos have been circulated. Make sure you get yours – free!

Awards Nominations Deadline

After the success of last year’s event, the 2012 Annual Heritage BC Conference will again be held in the early fall at a location on the Lower Mainland.
