HERITAGE BC UPDATE
SEPTEMBER 2010HERITAGE IN CRISISA Call to RenewThis summer, Heritage BC released a new document entitled 'A Call to Renew British Columbia’s Heritage Program'. Drafted in response to the ongoing deterioration of the state of heritage, 'A Call to Renew' has been sent to every MLA, including the Premier and heritage minister Kevin Krueger. It has also been sent to HBC members with a request that they contact their MLAs and write the provincial government.
Heritage BC is calling on the provincial government to take five steps to renew the heritage program. Click here for more:

HERITAGE CANADAKitsilano Secondary Makes Endangered ListVancouver’s Kitsilano Senior Secondary has made the 2010 Top Ten Most Endangered List recently released by the Heritage Canada Foundation. The list covers the whole of Canada; Kitsilano school is the only B.C. entry, a dubious distinction. It has also made Heritage Vancouver’s Top 10 list for the past couple of years.
The issue with Kitsilano school is part of a broader problem — the Vancouver School Board’s tendency to use the provincial school seismic upgrade program as a pretext to demolish and rebuild, rather than retrofit. Read more: » NEWS: Kitsilano Secondary |

KELOWNA : OCTOBER 15-17Society of Architectural Historians ConferenceThe Marion Dean Ross Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians will hold their annual conference in Kelowna on October 15-17. The theme is Small Cities: Balancing Pasts and Futures in the Pacific Northwest.
The final touches have been made to the 2010 conference program which includes papers, discussions and tours. Registration for the conference is available to the public as a package or by the day. The hotel booking deadline is September 14.
